Summer vacation season is almost upon us, and we can’t wait for its arrival! Tennessee’s Great Smoky Mountains are one of the country’s most popular spots for taking a summer getaway, offering unparalleled natural beauty and a plethora of fun things to see and do. Tucked away in the foothills of Gatlinburg, our Smoky Mountain TN vacation rentals are the perfect home base for your adventures in the area. Here are four things you don’t want to miss during your trip to the Smokies this summer:

1. Enjoying the Free Music and Fun at Smoky Mountain Tunes & Tales

From mid-June through the end of July, some of the area’s best entertainers will line the streets of downtown Gatlinburg for a series of free performances. Occurring every evening, Smoky Mountain Tunes & Tales features musicians, storytellers, and artisans. Visitors to The Strip can expect to hear plenty of traditional Appalachian music and to see costumed performers decked out in 1800s garb. Enjoying the free entertainment from Smoky Mountain Tunes and Tales is the perfect addition to a night of shopping and dining along Gatlinburg’s famous downtown Parkway. 2. Swimming the Day Away

The Highlands features two beautiful outdoor pools, so guests at our Smoky Mountain TN vacation rentals can cool off during the dog days of summer. Everyone loves to go swimming during their vacation, and children in particular are always big fans of splashing around in the pool. One of our pools is heated via solar power, making it perfect for a morning or afternoon that may be on the cool side. In addition to the swimming pools, guests can take advantage of our outdoor hot tub, indoor hot tub, and saunas.

3. Visiting the Gatlinburg Farmers Market and Having a Picnic

The summer months offer perfect picnic weather, and the Gatlinburg Farmers Market is the ideal place to get supplies! Running every Saturday morning at 849 Glades Road, the Gatlinburg Farmers Market offers a variety of locally grown produce and freshly made treats, such as jams, jellies, and baked goods. Once you have your ingredients, you can whip up something delicious in your condo’s fully equipped kitchen. The Highlands also has a convenient grilling area, so you can prepare some burgers, hot dogs, or vegetables. Your condo’s balcony provides a wonderful location for enjoying your meal and taking in majestic views of the mountains. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park also features a number of excellent picnic areas, including:
  • Deep Creek Picnic Area
  • Chimenys Picnic Area
  • Big Creek Picnic Area
  • Cades Cove Picnic Area
  • Greenbrier Picnic Area
  • Metcalf Bottoms Picnic Area
  • Collins Creek Picnic Area

4. Riding the Gatlinburg Trolley

From mid-June through mid-August, the trolleys in downtown Gatlinburg are free to ride. These open air shuttles are a convenient way to get around the Parkway when you’re tired of walking. Also, they are just plain fun to ride! The trolley makes 40 stops along Gatlinburg’s Parkway, so you can visit all the best attractions and shops while putting your feet up for a while.   To start planning your summer vacation, check out our complete selection of Smoky Mountain TN vacation rentals!
